One Last Snow

juststeverogersSome days Steve wondered if winter would ever end in the Nexus.
Occasionally, there would be a break in the howling winds, the ice, and the snow. On those days Steve made sure to go outside and get as much done as he could to enjoy the reprieve for what it was. And, recently, those breaks have been more common. It's a relief. The cold has been taxing on him in more ways than one.
It's not that Steve Rogers hates the winter. He has many fond memories of the season--of Christmases spent in the company of family and friends. Of picturesque postcard snows that drift down in fluffy white clouds and turn the world into a brilliant fluffy white.
So when Steve gets up one March morning to see just such a snow drifting lazily outside his large window he can't help the smile that flits across his face. And Steve gets an idea. A wonderful idea. Steve gets a wonderful grand idea.
He's quick to fumble with the laces on his boots, grabbing his coat, scarf, and mittens before he heads on outside. There's still a chill in the air but it's warmer than it's been with not a trace of wind to take away from the drifting flakes. His boots crunch in the snow and Steve takes his time on a long walk along a path at the edge of a park bordering the Wilds. It's late enough for shops to be open Downtown by the time he's done, so Steve hurries off to execute his grand plans.
It takes several trips lugging carafes half his size but Steve works hard, setting up a table and handing out cups of hot cocoa to passers by in the Plaza and relishes in every warm smile that appears--both because of the weather and his idea. He's not the only one cherishing this lovely snowfall and when the last of the cocoa is gone, Steve smiles up at the drifting downy flakes and slips his eyes closed when one falls on his nose.
"This is a snow worth having." He murmurs quietly to the falling white.
