Steve's grip on Bucky's hand is desperate, shifting every few seconds until he seems to realize it's real underneath his fingers. He lets out a juddering, shaky breath that sounds nearly like a sob of relief but the tension bleeds out and he rests easier. Never letting go of Bucky's hand.
So of course the first thing he does when he wakes up in a hospital bed is give Bucky's hand a squeeze.
"H..how're you feeling?" This is real. Steve almost can't believe it.
