Bucky finally got himself back together only to blink out again just like all those times before. Does he even know it was completely and not just his traitorous mind falling back into the same old tricks? It's not fair to put him through that again. Why couldn't it have taken Steve instead? Even though they made it.
They did make it, right? Steve hopes so. He's got nothing left to give. He hears someone calling for help and belatedly he thinks that's probably a good idea. What if Bucky's hurt after being turned to ash for however long that had been for him while Steve was out here? Of course he doesn't think of himself. Even as he's tunnel visioning. everything focusing down to the arms holding onto him.
"Got some bad news f'r you, Buck....I got shot again."
