Jim's free to take his run at whatever pace he likes. Sarah's by his side and only once or twice gets distracted by a smell or a person walking by the entrance of the park before she trots right back over to Jim to keep up with him. And every so often almsot like clockwork Jim hears the sounds of footsteps behind him and a murmured 'on your left' before Steve passes by again. He doesn't stay pristine for long. The longer Jim runs the more worn out they both get, though Steve never slows down the entire time Jim's running.
It's not until Jim's thrown himself onto the bench to pull out one of the towels and a water bottle for himself that Steve slows down to a jog before ambling over to where Jim and Sarah are. By now he's breathing heavily and sweating as much as Jim is, but his laugh is light and refreshed as he pulls a ceramic bowl out of the bag and pours Sarah a bit of water so she can drink up too.
"You're getting better at the whole 'stamina' thing. For a while I wondered when you were gonna quit."
