There's no time for Steve to break away at try to rush to the Exo's side. They can't take too many more of those 'eye' blasts, for one. For two, there's a whole wave of vandals and a bigger one descending on them with brutal efficiency. Steve hurls his shield into a group of vandals, taking a desperate pleasure in it ricocheting through the group and throwing them off. Hopes it will give Blaze enough time to recover while he grips the Vandal blade in both hands and charges the servitor for the last time.
The floating structure shudders back and forth unnaturally before winking out of existence yet again, but Steve can just barely follow with his eyes where it's moving to, materializing again and shooting another blast that only hits empty dirt as the captain leaps to avoid it. One of the deep cracks in the shell splits right along the top of the carapace and Steve drops like a stone onto it, burying the blade in the crevice with his entire body weight and momentum.
The sound of shrieking and grinding gears fills the room. Purple flashes of light and ether spill out but the servitor falls to the ground finally and grows still.
